Captive Blasting

Simply put, captive shot blasting fires a highly abrasive steel shot at the surface at high velocity. The shot hits the surface and rebounds, and the shot and debris then enters a separator where the dirt and debris are separated from the shot. The shot is then recycled back to the wheel and reused. When carried out properly by experienced operatives little or no dust is emitted into the atmosphere.

Using the MPB500 blast head attachment on the MP6000 as the primary captive blast unit allows us to prepare large areas of up to 3000 square metres in a shift dependant on the strength of the blasting required. This modern dry abrasive unit is completely dust and debris free and is suitable for a large range of applications from floor preparation, removing rubber and contaminants, line marking removal, to retexturing.

Due to its compact size, our machine is especially useful for the following:

  • working inside warehouses and factories

  • airport terminal buildings

  • covered car park areas

  • stripping bridge deck surfaces

Shot blasting leaves the surface dry, clean and profiled completely ready for the application of new coatings and provides the ideal roughened surface for the adhesion of any new coating or surface. Shot blasting is recommended by most coating specialists as it produces the ideal surface for their applications.

We also have robust walk behind shot blasting machines for smaller areas of work and tight spaces that complement and support our larger machines.

Retexturing

In simple terms, the purpose of retexturing is to improve skid resistance on surfaces that have worn smooth after years of use or have lost texture through “fatting up” of binder, which has not worn away under traffic.

We use three processes for retexturing “fine milling” “scarifying” and “shot blasting”, which are proven methods for improving skid resistance and thus road safety. The shot blasting process is weather susceptible and should only be carried out in dry conditions.

It is worth noting that results will vary dependant on the condition of the existing road surface and the materials used during initial construction. Most importantly, the existing surface must be without flaws and robust in structure. Surfaces with a high percentage of aggregate are best suited for retexturing. We will gladly inspect your site to determine suitability for any of the processes.
