Grit Blasting

Grit blasting is a form of abrasive blasting. We use this as a surface preparation technique that uses a high-pressure stream of abrasive particles to clean and prepare surfaces. It’s commonly used to remove rust, paint, scale, and other contaminants from various surfaces, making it an essential step before applying coatings or performing other finishing work.

Grit blasting involves propelling abrasive particles (like garnet, aluminium oxide, or steel grit) at high velocity onto a surface using compressed air, liquid streams, or mechanical projection methods.

• Applications:

It’s used for a wide range of applications, including surface cleaning, coating and lining preparation, and even non-destructive testing.

• Surface Modification:

Grit blasting can smooth rough surfaces, roughen smooth surfaces, or shape surfaces, depending on the abrasive used and the desired outcome.

• Advantages:

Grit blasting is often faster and more efficient than alternative methods like scabbling, and it can be a cost-effective solution due to the potential for recycling or reusing abrasive media.

• Considerations:

Grit blasting can be noisy and messy, and it’s important to consider the potential for vibration exposure (though grit blasting is generally less prone to vibration than some other methods).
